H G 'Bert' Goddard 1928-2000 - 16 July 2000 On Sunday 16 July, Bert Goddard a
Chelmsford Cathedral ringer, passed away. Bert had adopted our tower about a decade
ago when our band was in its infancy. He became an honorary member of the band and loyally
supported all our activities. He taught us a great deal, encouraged us and kept us
greatly amused with his ringing anecdotes. We all miss him terribly.
That evening we rang a half-muffled quarter
peal of Grandsire Triples. On 20 July, on the evening of his funeral, a band of past
and present District Officers rang a quarter of Grandsire Triples at Great Waltham, close
to his home.
